Military Veterans & Family Members

Student Counseling Center staff are aware of the unique challenges that returning veterans encounter upon their transition to civilian life. After returning from deployment, veterans experience challenges that may interfere with personal, professional, and academic success. Transitional concerns may derive from a myriad of issues that impact psychological concerns, including but not limited to:

  • Lack of relation to other students who do not share similar values or life experiences,
  • Navigating cultural differences between military service and higher education,
  • Concentration in academic studies,
  • Balancing multiple roles (e.g., family, school, work),
  • Feeling a sense of meaninglessness, isolation, or other existential concerns, and
  • Navigating other psychological concerns, such as addressing complex family dynamics, romantic relationships, depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, eating disorders, and other mental health concerns.

If you are experiencing any of the above concerns or are interested in receiving mental health services, please get in touch with the Student Counseling Center by calling (210)784-1331 any time Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, to schedule an appointment with a licensed clinician.
