Sexual Assault/Harassment Resources
If this is an emergency, please call 911 immediately. If you or someone you know needs further assistance, please get in touch with the Student Counseling Center (SCC) by calling 210-784-1331 (Available 24/7; for after-hours support, please select option “2”).
According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, “Sexual violence is any type of unwanted sexual contact, including words and actions of a sexual nature against a person’s will and without their consent.” If you think that you may have been sexually assaulted, there are options, and help is available. One of the most important actions to take following a sexual assault is to connect to supportive resources.
Did you know that:
- Prompt medical attention may prevent unwanted pregnancy, as well as Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) and hidden physical injuries,
- Individuals who have been assaulted have the option to collect any clothing or bedding involved in the incident and place it in separate paper bags for use in the future should they decide to press charges (Individuals may also take these items with them when they seek medical attention), and
- The Sexual Assault Forensics Kit is most effective within 96 hours of an incident. To preserve evidence, it is important not to bathe or shower prior to seeking medical attention.
