Communication Faculty Receive $50,000 COSA Grant

Communication faculty Jenny Moore and Dr. Vinicio Sinta received  a $50,000 capital expenditure grant and production contract with the City of San Antonio’s Government and Public Affairs Department to produce educational programming for TVSA Education. The purpose of the funding is to increase the amount and quality of local programming on the TVSA-Education channel and to increase student knowledge, experience, and skills with TV/film production equipment.  The interlocal agreement between the City and A&M-San Antonio will provide faculty with Public, Educational and Governmental (“PEG”) funds to develop and provide original programming. Students in Dr. Sinta’s broadcast classes will produce educational content beginning in 2020, starting with a series of informational videos on education in San Antonio.  “Our goal is to give context to the opportunities and challenges faced by students attending diverse K-12 public school systems in the San Antonio metro area,”  Sinta said.  The student-produced series will focus on education in the San Antonio area, examining educational policy and data on school funding and student outcomes. Moore, director of student media and associate professor of practice, said the city’s funding is a meaningful partnership that opens the boundaries of the classroom and broadens students’ experiential education.
