SAN ANTONIO — Univision San Antonio and Texas A&M University-San Antonio have signed an agreement to lease space at the University’s downtown Educational & Cultural Arts Center. The project will allow Univision to maintain a presence in the downtown area and bring a major media company's activities to the Educational & Cultural Arts Center. The announcement was made today by Dr. Maria Hernandez Ferrier, president of Texas A&M-San Antonio and Jeff Zimmerman, vice president/general manager and director of sales, Univision San Antonio.

“Texas A&M-San Antonio is very excited to welcome Univision's San Antonio team to our Educational & Cultural Arts Center. It means our students, who have already benefited from the station's long-standing commitment to educational initiatives, will continue to receive hands-on, top-notch training. We look forward to continuing the relationship and building innovative new programs together,” stated Jenny Moore, coordinator for the communications program at Texas A&M-San Antonio.

Zimmerman added, “Univision San Antonio’s partnership with Texas A&M-San Antonio further showcases Univision’s commitment to investing in our future generation of leaders and expanding our presence in San Antonio. This beautiful new venue commemorates the Latino culture of our city and we could not have picked a better location than this in the heart of San Antonio.”

“Univision was the first Spanish language station in the United States and what better place for them to be than in the historic Market Square where so many cultures and traditions are alive and thriving every day. Music, food, dance and tourists surround the Educational & Cultural Arts Center and we plan to keep that tradition very much alive with the work we do at Texas A&M-San Antonio,” stated Dr. Maria Hernandez Ferrier, president of Texas A&M-San Antonio. “It is a new day for the Zona Cultural, and we are happy to have Univision on board.”

Texas A&M-San Antonio communications students will also benefit from having the downtown studios to experience firsthand the mentorship of journalism professionals who work at an award-winning, community-oriented newsroom such as KWEX-TV. Univision San Antonio will be occupying the space effective later this year.

The announcement comes on the heels of Univision announcing its state-of-the-art facilities in north San Antonio and its increased investment in the San Antonio area.
