Message from the President

Dear Members of the Campus Community,

Over the past three weeks, a historic milestone has been announced in various settings, social media and public speeches. However, this news is so grand, it deserves repeating!

I am absolutely overjoyed to announce that on February 3, 2016, A&M-San Antonio received approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) for downward expansion. The University submitted its application for this substantive change in September 2015. This approval allows A&M-SA to offer lower-division courses effective fall 2016. As a result, A&M-SA was able to initiate the admissions process to prospective first-year students. To date, A&M-San Antonio has received more than 3,600 applications for its inaugural class and we have already mailed approximately 700 acceptance letters. There are a series of correspondences and outreach efforts to all incoming students including "I got accepted" scrolls, letters, phone calls and personal visits to campus. There were also a frenzy of social media posts sharing excitement about Richard Acosta, the first student who was officially admitted! Check it out on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We are on target to meet our enrollment goals for academic year 2016-17!

SACSCOC approval was the last step in the accreditation and approval process that has lasted almost 18 months and will continue until we welcome our inaugural class of first-year students in fall 2016. While much work remains to be done as we prepare for implementation, this exciting news puts A&M-San Antonio one step closer to becoming a national model for student and academic success.

I offer my wholehearted thank you to Provost Snow, Holly Verhasselt and the entire University community. You have each played a significant role in our organizational evolution to become a comprehensive university. I thank you for your efforts!

Sincerely,

President Matson

Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson
