Campus Lights Up, Community Turns Out for 2018 Lights of Esperanza

More than 1,500 faculty, staff, students and members of the South Side community witnessed the illumination of more than 30,000 twinkling lights across campus during the Lights of Esperanza on the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 27. Guests enjoyed a performance by University Voices, refreshments, a snow slide, the Jaguarettes and even reindeer at A&M-San Antonio's annual holiday celebration. 

President Cynthia Teniente-Matson enlightened guests with a story about the history of holiday lighting. Winners were announced for the Student Organization Window Decorating Contest and the Staff Council-sponsored Faculty and Staff Door Decoration Contest, which are noted below:

Door Decoration Contest:

  • Grand Prize Winner: Academic Learning Center ($50 H-E-B gift card) 
  • Jaguar Pride Award: Office of the Registrar ($50 H-E-B gift card) 
  • Second Place: Office of Student Affairs ($25 restaurant gift card)
  • Third Place: Testing Center ($25 restaurant gift card

[Contestants who did not place were awarded $10 Taco Cabana gift cards. Contestants who have not already claimed their gift cards may do so in Modular 110.] 

Window Decorating Contest: 

  • First Place: Mexican-American Student Association (MASA) 
  • Second Place: Jaguar Student Parent Organization
