A&M-San Antonio General’s Food Pantry and Spurs Give to provide meals to students impacted by COVID-19

WHAT:Spurs Give is teaming up with Texas A&M University-San Antonio’s General’s Food Pantry to provide 300 meals to campus community members experiencing food insecurity due to the pandemic.

WHEN: Wednesday, June 10, from 4-6 p.m., Texas A&M University-San Antonio, Patriot’s Casa, One University Way, San Antonio, Texas 78224

BACKGROUND: A&M-San Antonio students impacted by COVID-19 will pick up hot meals at the University’s Patriot’s Casa building in coordination with General’s Store, which provides supplemental food to members of the University community who need assistance. The pantry, named for General, the University’s Jaguar mascot, receives most of the food it distributes from the San Antonio Food Bank and from donations.

Jaguar Lift Campaign/Student Emergency Relief Fund: Through the Jaguar Lift Campaign, A&M-San Antonio has raised a record number of donations to support Emergency Student Aid and the General’s Store Food Pantry. General’s Store has provided nearly 70,000 meals to its University community of students and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Spurs Give is intended to support first responders, inspire local commerce and provide for families directly impacted by COVID-19 through local nonprofits. The fund has provided and served 500 meals a day from local restaurants (15,000 total since the launch in May) and is now also partnering with the San Antonio Food Bank to give another 25,000 meals to families in need in the community.

In addition to the Spurs Give’s $500,000 donation to the fund, Frost Bank, the Charles Butt Foundation, NuStar Energy, the Greehey Family Foundation, Red McCombs Automotive, the CE Group and the 80/20 Foundation have pledged contributions. The nonprofit is committed to helping raise more than $1 million for Spurs Give.
