Photo Style
Imagery
We utilize people-focused imagery to emphasize our personal approach and deep connection to San Antonio.
When featuring landscapes or campus images, we use bold and expansive shots to express the beauty of our campus.
Imagery Treatment
Properly treated imagery should reflect the vibrancy of San Antonio and the shared goals and collective mindset of A&M-SA.
The Quad Graphic and Tile Pattern are elements to include in compositions.
The combination of both elements over our bold and bright imagery bring the vision of A&M-SA to life.
Framing & Lighting
Framing and lighting will establish the difference between a good photo and a bad one, no matter the equipment used. Outdoors in the morning or towards the evening will give the best light and minimalize shadows. If your camera has an option to white balance, please do so. Try not to use the flash as it makes the light more harsh.
When framing the photo, try to get as close and clear as possible. Try to avoid random items such as drinks, backpacks, and other things that throw off the organization of your photo. You want your photo to be as clean as possible. Try to avoid group shots if possible unless you are posing them.

For photos to use on social media and the website, photos should be a minimum of 72 DPI. Use Adobe PhotoShop or other photo software to reduce photo size and Save For Web and Devices. Photos taken from mobile devices such as cell phones or iPads are perfect for use on the web and social media. Remember that JPEGs will give you a forced background (white), GIFs/PNGs/EPSs have a transparent background. | For photos that will be used for print publications, use the highest settings possible, 300 DPI or higher. Generally, photos that go straight from the camera to a document without any photo editing software have high resolution. |
