ABOUT P2S
The Pathways to Success (P2S) grant aims to create supportive and transformative experiences for undergraduate students.
Core Objectives
- Increase the number of students who are TSI ready
- Increase course success rates for at-risk students
- Increase retentions rates for undeserved and low-income students
- Increase graduation rates for undeserved and low-income students
Framework
The P2S grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, supports the vision of the institution through the development of three in-depth activities:
Laying the Foundations and Removing Barriers
This activity will include implementing summer bridge programming for both freshmen and transfer students and making on-demand access to technology easier for students.
Creating Vertically Integrated Pathways (VIPs)
VIPs are defined broadly as shared learning and structured curriculum, including experiential learning such as undergraduate research and service learning. VIPs allow students to have ownership in their education and career development while working with other students – potentially from different disciplines – on a hands-on project that could benefit the institution or community, as well as developing important research findings. This model will also allow students to explore a variety of topics and interests in a scaffolded manner, providing time to assess relevancy, learning outcomes, and other metrics that gauge efficacy. Additionally, a VIP model helps with connecting all experiences from day one and provides a concentrated area of focus for some, while allowing exploration for others. The launchpad for VIPs will be accessed by students through Discovery Pathways. Discovery Tracks are considered entry points into various pathways, generally promoted during a student's first and second year at the university.
Changing Culture Through Professional Development
This activity seeks to address any cultural gaps existing in the classroom. Training will include a focus on culturally relevant programming and improved pedagogical approaches related to experiential learning activities beneficial to students from various backgrounds and abilities. This element of the training will focus on active listening and mentorship skills that support successful guidance and encouragement of students on Vertically Integrated Pathways. This will have a secondary effect of an overall more compassionate and transparent staff, faculty and peer leaders in the campus environment.
