Past Due Accounts and Collections

Past Due Accounts and Collections

What to Expect When an Account Is Past Due

When your account is past due:

  1. A financial hold is placed on your account. This action may prevent registration, transcripts and graduation diploma.
  2. Past-due letters will be mailed to the address we have on file when we determine the account as past due. Past due is defined by the last class day. The first letter is sent once the account has reached the past due date, the second letter is sent 30 days after the first letter is sent.
  3. When your account is past due (last class day), a state hold is placed with the Texas Comptroller’s office. This is in accordance with the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts’ Policy, Reporting of State Debts and Hold Offset Procedures.
  4. Once your account is past due 45 days or more, it may be placed with an outside collection agency. If your account is placed with an outside collection agency, a collection fee of up to 30 percent may be added to your account balance.

A Collection Agency Called Me

TAMUSA contracts outside collection agencies (S&S Recovery, Williams and Fudge, and Reliant) to collect on past-due balances. Email the Collections Department or call 210-784-2035 to confirm that the collection agency contacting you was contracted by TAMUSA.

Note: Once an account is placed with an outside collection agency, your account may not be recalled and will remain in collections until the account is paid in full.

Set Up Payment Arrangements for a Past-Due Balance

If you would like to set up payment arrangements for a past-due balance prior to your account being sent to a collection agency, email the Collections Department or call 210-784-2035.

Limitations to Payment Arrangements

If you are currently registered for a semester and have a past-due balance all balances may be included in the payment plan. Please note that setting up a payment plan does not guarantee eligibility to register for future terms—failure to resolve outstanding balances may prevent future registration.
