Refund Policy

Upon Withdrawing From The University
Students officially withdrawing (dropping all courses) during a Fall or Spring Session will receive a refund on tuition, mandatory fees and laboratory fees based on the date of official withdrawal and the applicable percentage:

Fall and Spring Sessions:

Long Sessions (10 weeks or longer)

Prior to the first class day - 100%

  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Class Days, the percentage is 80%
  • 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th Class Days, the percentage is 70%
  • 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th Class Days, the percentage is 50%
  • 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th Class Days, the percentage is 25%
  • After the 20th class day the percentage is 0%

Withdrawal for Fall or Spring Session Flex I or Flex II (Flex sessions are typically 8 weeks):

  • Prior to the first class day - 100%
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class days, the percentage is 80%
  • 4th, 5th, and 6th class days, the percentage is 50%
  • After the 6th class day, the percentage is 0%

The "first class day" is determined by the beginning of a session based on the Academic Calendar, not the first class meeting date.

Summer Sessions:

Students officially withdrawing (dropping) all courses during a Summer Session will receive a refund on tuition, mandatory fees, and laboratory fees based on the date of official withdrawal and the applicable percentage:

Withdrawal for session of five weeks or less:

  • Prior to the first class day - 100%
  • 1st class day, the percentage is 80%
  • 2nd class day, the percentage is 50%
  • After 2nd day, the percentage is 0%

Withdrawal for Summer Session of more than 5 weeks but less than 10 weeks (typically these sessions run for 8 weeks):

  • Prior to the first class day - 100%
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class days, the percentage is 80%
  • 4th, 5th, and 6th class days, the percentage is 50%
  • After the 6th class day, the percentage is 0%

The "first class day" is determined by the beginning of a semester.

Withdrawal for Summer Session of 10 weeks or longer:

Prior to the first class day - 100%

  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Class Days, the percentage is 80%
  • 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th Class Days, the percentage is 70%
  • 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th Class Days, the percentage is 50%
  • 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th Class Days, the percentage is 25%
  • After the 20th class day the percentage is 0%

Upon Dropping a Course or Courses

A 100% refund difference of applicable tuition and fees collected will be made for courses from which students drop (not withdraw) by the Census date for a semester or term.  There will be no refunds for courses dropped after the Census date. Per Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) the following Census dates apply:

Refund Procedures

Refunds are mailed according to published schedules from the Student Business Services Office.  All refunds will be mailed to the billing address provided by the student or direct deposited.

Any financial obligations owed to the University will be deducted from the refund before the balance is mailed or direct deposited.  A student who is required to withdraw because of failure in the work of a previous semester will receive a refund in accordance with the above schedule.

No refunds will be made on visitor's fees.
