DREAM Peer Mentoring Program

About: The peer mentoring program focuses on career exploration for incoming mentees. A second component consists of career selection after the exploration process that best fits each student's career goals. Mentors will connect mentees through on or off-campus resources based on the student's career interest and support. I.e. - academic advising, Mays Center-Career Services, handshake & jagsync, & local organizations w/ possible career interest support.

Who is Eligible for the Program? Dreamers, Undocumented and DACAmented students who need assistance navigating college

Faculty Advising Program

About: The Texas A&M University-San Antonio Faculty Advising Program pairs select first-year students with a faculty mentor who will be available to them throughout their entire first year on campus. The faculty mentor will assist students on a personal level as they navigate their time on campus. They will answer any questions or address any concerns they may have regarding their education and experience as a student.

Family Inspiring Resilience and Esperanza (FIRE)

Mission Statement: To empower Jaguar family members and Jaguar students with families within the university setting by creating intentional interactions with campus resources, developing a sense of belonging and community, and providing programs and resources to maintain academic and social connections with the jaguar community.

Financial Literacy Fellows

Mission Statement: Financial Literacy Fellows are typically upper-level or graduate-level business, finance, or accounting majors. FL Fellows give presentations and workshops about financial topics to students on campus as well as at partnering K-12 schools/programs. There is a component of the program in which FL Fellows provide money coaching to peers (could be considered a form of mentorship).

Who is eligible for the Program? Juniors, Seniors, Graduate students, Major (Business, Finance, Accounting)

First-Year Seminar Peer Leaders

Mission Statement: Peer Leaders are mentors who promote engagement and foster a supportive environment for students to find their sense of belonging to thrive on campus. These Peer Leaders are passionate about working with a diverse group of individuals and are committed to their students’ learning and development.

F.A.T.E. Program

Mission Statement: The F.A.T.E. Center at Texas A&M University-San Antonio serves all prospective and admitted students who have been touched by the foster care system. We support student success through academic coaching, education through the 7 Life Domains, and by enhancing self-advocacy skills to create strong relationships on campus and within the community. The F.A.T.E. Center partners with students to navigate college life as well as local and state agencies ultimately to help students fulfill the goal of graduation.

Vision Statement: We strive that all foster/adopted youth utilizing the tuition and fee waiver attending A&M -San Antonio will graduate with a college degree.

Greater Texas Foundation Mentor Program

Miriam Magdaleno & Briana Hagelgans

Mission Statement: As a GTF scholar, one of the roles is to become a peer mentor to students in the early college high school (ECHS) program. Peer mentors will support and guide ECHS students during their program and will communicate any coming events and reminders. The mentor program helps enhance student leadership skills, provide opportunities for students to build academic and social networks through department sponsored events and help build and foster a growth mind-set.

Peer Coaching Program

Mission Statement: This program is designed to have peers as Academic Coaches to interact with students in a peer coaching capacity. The Peer Coaches meet with students one on one to discuss challenges as a FTIC or First Gen student.

Who is Eligible for the Program? Any undergraduate student

Presidents Leadership Class Program

Mission Statement: The Presidents Leadership Class (PLC) is a four-year comprehensive, undergraduate, leadership development program. PLC develops extraordinary leaders who apply their unique approach to leadership throughout their lives, in their academic fields, professions, and communities.

Program Benefits: Each year, 25 of Texas A&M – San Antonio’s incoming students are selected, through a competitive application process, as PLC Scholars. Our PLC scholars receive a four-year scholarship worth $8,000. The scholarship is awarded each semester in the amount of $1,000.

Transfer Student Mentorship Program (Silver Liners)

Mission Statement: Incoming transfer students have the opportunity to be paired with a mentor that can help them navigate their transition onto our campus.  We also host an orientation for the program early on in the semester.  Transfer Tuesdays are held every month where mentors & mentees and other transfer students can come and hang out, eat food, make crafts, and meet other students in the organization.
