Overview
The Campus Computer Refresh Program coordinates a workstation replacement for every full-time staff and faculty position once every five (5) fiscal years. Our goal is to refresh approximately the same number of staff and faculty computers each year, subject to budget availability. Your request may fall in the priority depending on the listed prioritized categories below.
Priorities
- Priority 1:
A current employee’s device is of age to be replaced; IT will replace it one-for-one with a similar device. For example, if a user has a high-end device, they will receive a high-end device. If the employee desires a different model during the refresh, the department will pay the difference in the cost. - Priority 2:
A department computer is used for administrative purposes, not assigned as a workstation to an individual. For example, if a department uses a computer for adjunct faculty or student workers.
Eligibility
The campus computer refresh program is designated to provide current employees with computers every five years who meet the following criteria:
- Full-time staff (part-time employees are not eligible)
- Full-time faculty (adjunct faculty are not eligible)
*Please note the following are ineligible for a computer refresh
- Net new positions
- Temporary or contractor positions such as adjunct faculty and graduate assistants
- Student worker and work-study positions
- Grant-funded purchases
**Departments may request the purchase of a new computer with departmental fund

One Computer Per Person
The ONE COMPUTER PER PERSON approach provides employees with a consistent working environment and reduces campus expenses. Aside from research devices and other special considerations, most employees will only have one computer assigned for work purposes.
As noted, there may be an instance where a secondary computer, extra device, or laptop may be needed for grants, research, or new part-time, temporary employees. The department funds all secondary or extra computers.
iPads and other tablet-based devices are not considered computers and will not be considered in the refresh planning process.
Please consult with the IT Finance Team if you have any questions, as they can help you assess and address your specific computer requirements.
