8th Annual Festival de Cascarones is a smashing success

imageMore than 7,000 people came to campus on the last day of Fiesta San Antonio to celebrate Festival de Cascarones. The family-friendly event, presented by H-E-B, featured seven hours of non-stop, fun-filled activities.

Before Festival de Cascarones commenced, on-campus festivities were already underway, starting with the celebration of Admitted Student Fiesta. Soon after, the inaugural A&M-SA Alumni Brunch was hosted in the President's Rose Garden. The social event drew more than 400 alumni to their alma mater.

Once Festival de Cascarones officially began, festival-goers were treated to an eclectic mix of great live music by Secondhand Serenade, Blue Water Highway, Bidi Bidi Banda and student group Like a Sparrow. Additionally, Grupo Folkorico and Texas A&M International University's Mariachi Internacional captured the imagination of the crowd with their colorful cultural performances.

The annual Cascarone Smash was also a big hit. After emcee Brandon Oliver gave the signal to commence the cracking, thousands of people shattered shells on family members and friends, showering the West Lawn with confetti.

This 2018 Festival de Cascarones was a fitting Fiesta finale during the city's historic Tricentennial year! For more photos from the event, visit the University's Flickr page.
