Thank You for a Great Spring Semester

May 23, 2018

Dear Members of the A&M-San Antonio Community:

Whew! It seems like no sooner did we kick off the spring semester than graduation was upon us. And what an amazing graduation it was, with a record number of students (758) crossing the stage at Freeman Coliseum (that's a 15% increase over last spring). Congratulations Class of 2018!

Though our University continues to move at a Jaguar's pace, and will do so for the foreseeable future, I want to tap the brakes long enough to recognize our faculty and staff for another great semester.

My Heartfelt Thanks

You all contribute your time, energy and talents in ways that constantly amaze me. And you do so in selfless service to a greater good: Providing high-quality education and support services that open windows of discovery and doors of opportunity to all students. I am truly grateful.

Summer at a Glance

As we embark upon another summer in San Antonio -- one that will no doubt prove to be torrid at times (okay, most of the time) -- we will pursue several noteworthy projects and activities. On June 19, the University will host Employee Development Day for all full-time staff and faculty. The event will include professional development presentations, lunch and fun activities throughout day.

In addition, we will continue to infuse our campus with the diverse cultures and artistic talents of A&M-SA and our great city. Just outside the Student Rec Room and Coffee Shop, we will install new Student Wall Graphics. We will also reorganize some of our existing artwork through a museum-style installation. These projects are designed to bring the interior spaces on our campus to life with interesting and inspiring works of art.

In addition, the new Science and Technology Building will undergo finishing touches in preparation for its opening in August, and we will install a new modular building to support our students' academic success, retention and time to degree.

Best Wishes for Your Summer

I hope all of you enjoy a summer that strikes the perfect balance between relaxation and fun -- spent with family and friends, focused on those things that matter most and give meaning to our lives. I look forward to seeing everyone rested and reinvigorated in August, when we will welcome a record number of freshmen, transfers and graduate students to our bustling campus.

Warm Regards,
